Five dentists. One rule for every patient.

Dr. Kyle Edlund opened Woodbury Dental Care in 1989 on the Golden Rule: treat patients the way you would want to be treated. Five dentists, and a team some of whom have been here for thirty years, still work to it on Radio Drive.

Our story, since 1989

In 1989 Dr. Kyle Edlund opened this practice on one rule: treat every patient the way you would want your own family treated. The office has grown from seven treatment bays to seventeen, and the rule has not moved an inch.

Many of our patients have been with us for decades. A few of them now work here.

How a visit feels

Comfort is built in, not added on.

Our team chose dentistry to help people, and part of that is making the appointment itself easy to sit through. Here is what that looks like on Radio Drive.

The lounge at Woodbury Dental Care: blue armchairs and a round table in front of a fireplace and TV.
01

Coffee, and a fireplace

The problem: waiting rooms that make you more nervous, not less.

Help yourself to a drink from the coffee bar and sit by the fire. It is a lounge, not a row of chairs against a wall, and it is the first thing you see.

A treatment room at Woodbury Dental Care, seen through its frosted glass door, with a window onto Woodbury.
02

Blankets, pillows, warm towels

The problem: an hour in a dental chair feels longer than an hour.

Ergonomic chairs, a neck pillow and a blanket, headphones and a TV in every treatment room, and a warm towel when you are done. Nitrous oxide is there if you want to take the edge off.

The sterilization center at Woodbury Dental Care, with autoclaves and instrument cabinets.
03

A sterilization center you can see

The problem: the part of a dental office nobody shows you.

This is ours. Alex, our clinical coordinator since 2010, maintains it, and it is where the safe, clean treatment rooms you sit in actually come from.

Meet the dentists

Five dentists, one alma mater.

Every one of our dentists earned their dental degree at the University of Minnesota. Between them they look after the whole family, from a toddler’s first visit to an implant placed and restored under one roof.

  • Sports dentistry and dental traumaDr. Pelke has served on the board of the Academy for Sports Dentistry, and we treat many patients from the Minnesota Wild.
  • Implants, start to finishPlanned on a 3-D cone beam scan, then placed and restored here, so you do not need a separate specialist.
  • Care for nervous patientsPutting fearful patients at ease is Dr. Wenzel’s particular focus, with nitrous oxide for anyone who wants it.
  • Over 50 years of combined experienceAnd an interest in new techniques and technology that keeps it current.

Meet all five.

Dr. Pelke and Dr. Wernberg own the practice together, carrying on the tradition Dr. Edlund started in 1989.

Four people ask about most.

Dental Implants

Planned on a 3-D cone beam scan, then placed and restored by our own dentists. If the bone needs building up first, we can graft it here too.

Invisalign

A digital scan instead of impression paste. Each set of aligners is worn for one to three weeks, with a check-in about every six weeks.

Crowns & Bridges

Porcelain or zirconia, designed from a digital scan taken in seconds and made by a trusted local lab. Usually two appointments.

Root Canal Treatment

Usually two visits. The tooth is numbed with a strong local anesthetic, and nitrous oxide is there if you want it. Most treated teeth then need a crown.

Technology

See what we see.

We take x-rays only when they are needed, and when we recommend treatment we show you why, on the screen beside the chair.

  • Digital impressionsA handheld scanner captures a 3-D model of your teeth in seconds. No cold, goopy impression paste.
  • Low-dose digital x-raysAbout 80 percent less radiation than film, and on the monitor straight away.
  • Intraoral camerasMagnified pictures of the tooth being discussed, so you see the crack or the worn filling yourself.
  • 3-D cone beam CTUsed to plan implants, extractions and root canals, and to diagnose TMJ disorders.
  • Nitrous oxideLaughing gas through a small nasal mask. It wears off before you leave.
  • TVs in every treatment roomA pleasant distraction for the longer appointments.

New patients & emergencies

Early mornings, a late Tuesday.

We open at 7 am on Mondays and Fridays and stay until 6 pm on Tuesdays, so a checkup does not have to cost you a day at work. New patients of every age are welcome, from a one-year-old’s first visit up.

In pain, or something has broken?

Call rather than book online. Time is held open in the schedule every day for patients who need to be seen quickly.

  1. A team member asks about your symptoms and books you in based on what you need
  2. You get instructions for handling it until you reach us
  3. The first priority is getting you out of pain and stable
  4. A tooth knocked out or loose? There are only a couple of hours to save it, so call straight away

Outside office hours, call (651) 739-7910 and listen for the prompts to reach an emergency dentist.

Common questions

What people ask before they book.

Do you accept my insurance?

We are in-network with Delta Dental Premier and HealthPartners Open Access, and as a courtesy we file every claim for you electronically, in network or out. We will give you our best estimate of your share, though the final figure is your insurer’s decision. No insurance at all? Ask about the WDC Private Plan.

I’m nervous about coming in. How can you help?

Tell us when you call. We explain every procedure before we start, always numb the area with a strong local anesthetic first, and offer nitrous oxide if you would like to relax further. Neck pillows, blankets, headphones and a TV are in every treatment room, and there is a warm towel at the end.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Toothaches, broken teeth, gum inflammation, jaw pain or swelling, dental trauma, and lost fillings or crowns. Call as soon as you can: time is held in the schedule every day for patients in pain. Outside office hours, call the same number and listen for the prompts to reach an emergency dentist.

When should my child first see a dentist?

Within six months of their first baby tooth, or by age one at the latest. After that, a checkup every six months, with sealants and fluoride to protect small teeth, and nitrous oxide if a filling is ever needed.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Our digital x-rays use about 80 percent less radiation than film, and we only take them when they are needed. When we do, we tell you why, and what they can show that a visual exam cannot.
